The cult-favourite burger joint, crowned the UK’s Best Burger in 2023, has set its sights on Exeter with new city centre restaurant and up to 50 new jobs.
Devon’s food scene is about to get a major burger upgrade as The Beefy Boys, the winners of the UK’s Best Burger (National Burger Awards 2023) have announced plans to open their seventh UK restaurant in Exeter this summer.

The award-winning burger brand will be situated in the former BrewDog site at Unit 12 Queen Street. The restaurant is aiming to open by the end of the summer, marking The Beefy Boys’ most southern site to date.
The Beefy Boys was founded in 2011 by four childhood friends – Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy, Daniel Mayo-Evans, Christian Williams and Lee Symonds, who first made headlines when they placed second at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in 2014. They returned in 2024, securing fourth place in Indianapolis, cementing their reputation as one of the UK’s leading burger brands.
Exeter will join The Beefy boys’ growing portfolio of restaurants in Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, Bath, Oxford and Nottingham, alongside two travelling food trucks serving events across the country.
Speaking about the new launch, co-founder Anthony ‘Murf’ Murphy said,
“Exeter has been on our radar for a while. It’s an exciting city with a buzzing food scene, and I’m lucky enough to have spent lots of time here, due to some family connections, so it’s always felt like somewhere we’d love to be. When the former BrewDog site came up, it just felt like the perfect fit for us.
We’re incredibly proud of how far The Beefy Boys has come. Just over ten years ago we were cooking burgers in our back gardens, and now we are opening our seventh restaurant. We can’t wait to bring what we do to Devon, and become a part of the local food scene.”
The new city centre site will serve up The Beefy Boys’ cult favourites, including the classic Beefy Boy Burger and the award-winning Oklahoma Onion Boy Cali Style burger, alongside indulgent loaded fries, buffalo wings, vegetarian and vegan options, indulgent sides, and the brand’s famous hard shakes.
The brand is known for using 100% grass-fed beef from their hometown in Herefordshire, and championing local suppliers wherever possible. They have built a a fiercely loyal following thanks to its bold flavours, playful personality, and commitment to quality.
Recruitment for the new restaurant is now live, with the brand expecting to create between 40 and 50 jobs in Exeter. The team is seeking energetic, food-loving staff to join the team. Job listings can be viewed at https://jobs.thebeefyboys.com/
Further details on the opening date, and the way in which local diners can be among the first to try out the new restaurant will be announced soon.
