Spectacle of Light – renowned as one of the region’s most magical festive illuminations, set within the stunning grounds of Sudeley Castle, near Cheltenham – welcomed hundreds of visitors to the opening night of its new, immersive light trail, on Friday 24 November 2023.
Visitors embarked on an enchanted, Wizard of Oz themed journey meeting the characters of Dorothy, Toto, the Lion, Scarecrow, Tinman, and – if you’re lucky to find him – the Wizard, down the yellow brick road through the impressive castle grounds, weaving around thousands of beautiful lights showcasing the majestic trees, historic ruins, award-winning gardens and the magnificent castle itself.
“Spectacle of Light is the most magical winter light trail and each year it delights our whole family, with stunning light installations, an immersive theme and the characters really add that extra magic!” Commented Kirsty Stevens, from Entertaining the Kids on a Budget Gloucestershire.
Trail-goers were treated to a rich mulled wine or warm spiced apple drink from The Pavillion before they wandered through the grounds, experiencing the magical moonlit trail. Afterwards, visitors enjoyed tucking in to some of Gloucestershire’s leading street food on the Castle Terrace, including freshly baked pizzas from Marvellous Medicine, mouth-watering hot dogs from The Woozy Pig and hot mulled cider from Hayles Fruit Farm. They also enjoyed the opportunity to browse the festive gift shop before heading home.
Spectacle of Light has been delighting thousands of visitors in the grounds of Sudeley Castle – one of the Cotswolds’ most popular family attractions – for almost 10 years. Helping transport visitors to a joyously festive wonderland each winter, with expertly designed installations and themed immersive illuminations.
