The Everyman Theatre, Gloucestershire’s premiere entertainment venue, is welcoming in the new year by announcing its new programme for 2023 and, once again, it’s packed full of sensational events, from beloved family favourites to acclaimed dramas, laugh out loud comedies to outstanding stage adaptations of classic films.
The Theatre is also celebrating the announcement of its resident annual panto star, Tweedy the Clown, being recognised on the King’s New Year’s Honour’s List for services to the circus and to the community in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Tweedy, who has worked closely with The Everyman Theatre for many years, has been awarded the esteemed accolade ‘Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM)’.

Tweedy (BEM) is the star of The Everyman Theatre’s annual festive panto, Dick Whittington & His Cat Tweedy, which finished its 3-month run on Sunday 8th January 2023. But fans won’t have to wait long to see him again as his makes a triumphant return to the Everyman stage this February with a brand-new show, and again as the star of Mother Goose, the Everyman’s brand-new panto for 2023/24!

1. Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle (19th – 21st January) If you enjoyed the smash-hit ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ or the BBC TV series ‘The Goes Wrong Show’, then you’ll love ‘Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle’. 2. Tales from Acorn Wood (3rd and 4th February) Based on the hugely popular books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, ‘Tales from Acorn Wood’ brings the beloved children’s stories to life on stage for the first time. Little ones will be delighted to see the familiar characters of Bear, Rabbit, Pig, Hen and Fox as they sing-a-long and take the audience on an enchanting adventure. 3. The Shawshank Redemption (13th – 18th February) Based on the short novel by Stephen King and the subsequent cult hit film, this excellent stage adaptation of ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ promises a thrilling insight into desperation, injustice, friendship and hope within the confines of a maximum-security facility. 4. Tweedy’s Musical Mayhem! (23rd – 25th February) Fans of Tweedy the Clown won’t have to wait long to see him again following his starring role in The Everyman Theatre’s annual festive panto, as he returns to the stage in February, accompanied by his Gifford’s Circus co-star Mikey, for a brand-new show. Pride and Prejudice * (*sort of) (6th – 11th March) This unique and audacious retelling of Jane Austen’s most iconic love story has been met with considerable critical acclaim, including from Stephen Fry who praised it for “Hilarity, romance, madness and utter theatrical joy.”. Home, I’m Darling (28th March – 1st April) Following sold-out seasons at the National Theatre and on London’s West End, the Olivier award-winning comedy ‘Home, I’m Darling’ will be at The Everyman Theatre from 28th March – 1st April as part of its first national tour. Heathers The Musical (6th – 10th June) The exuberant, award-winning ‘Heathers The Musical’ will hit the stage of The Everyman Theatre from 6th – 10th June, following two successful seasons on London’s West End and a record-breaking run at The Other Palace Theatre, London.
