Wye Valley Brewery is proud to announce the nationwide supermarket launch of Nightjar, its smooth and creamy nitro stout, available for the first time in 4‑packs of 440ml cans. Already a firm favourite among stout drinkers in pubs, Nightjar can now be enjoyed at home.

Rolling out from mid‑April, Nightjar 4‑packs will be available in Asda, followed by Sainsbury’s at the end of May, with selected Waitrose stores to follow later in the year. The launch marks a major milestone for the independent, third‑generation family brewery as it brings Nightjar to a wider national audience.
Brewed by the award-winning Wye Valley Brewery, Nightjar is a full-bodied British Nitro Stout known for its velvety texture, rich roasted character and smooth, satisfying finish. Previously only available on draught, the new canned format allows drinkers to enjoy a beautifully smooth pour at home, complete with Nightjar’s signature settling cascade and creamy head.
“We’re incredibly proud of Nightjar and seeing it reach a much wider audience across the UK is a hugely exciting moment for everyone at Wye Valley Brewery. We can’t wait to introduce it to new drinkers, and we hope they enjoy it every bit as much as we do, perhaps even discovering their new favourite stout.”
Vernon Amor, Managing Director, Wye Valley Brewery
“Nightjar… it’s exceptional!”
Ryan Truswell, Ale/Stout & Cider Buying Manager, Asda
Nightjar’s flavour profile is defined by the subtle notes of roasted coffee and the depth of roasted barley, delivering a classic stout character with a refined modern twist. Infused with nitrogen and best enjoyed chilled to around 4°C, it offers a smooth, refreshing pint at 4.2% ABV — rich enough to savour, yet balanced enough for easy drinking. Brewed using British hops and malts, it reflects Wye Valley Brewery’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and local sourcing.
Nightjar is based on an original cask recipe created by brewery founder Peter Amor, a former Guinness brewer who established Wye Valley Brewery in 1985. Under the leadership of Peter’s son, Managing Director Vernon Amor, the brewery expanded its range to include keg beers in 2016, paving the way for Nightjar’s evolution into a standalone brand. The beer itself was developed by Head Brewer Gareth Bateman, who refined the recipe and brought its smooth, creamy character to life, while the Nightjar brand was shaped by Head of Sales & Marketing Abbie Gadd, working closely with drinks agency Wonderworks. Since the launch into pubs in 2022, Nightjar has quickly earned a loyal following thanks to its depth of flavour and distinctive identity.
The name Nightjar is inspired by the nocturnal bird native to the Wye Valley, known for its smooth, silent flight – a fitting reflection of the beer’s silky, gliding pour.
Wye Valley Brewery is renowned for producing a wide range of casks, kegs, bottled beers, and cans using high-quality local ingredients. Its beers, including much-loved Butty Bach and HPA, are served in more than 1,200 pubs across the UK, particularly throughout the West Midlands and South Wales. Located in the heart of Herefordshire’s hop‑growing countryside, the brewery works closely with local farmers, sourcing more than half of its hops from within ten miles of the brewery – a testament to its commitment to community, sustainability and exceptional beer. With its creamy texture, rich roasted flavour and growing reputation, Nightjar’s arrival on supermarket shelves firmly establishes it among the leading premium stouts available today.
